Discussing REAL Food..

fresh produce 1

real food 1

I have been really getting into more and more research. Having a background in athletics and nutrition I have always prided myself on the fact that I try to offer my family the best that I can.

That means striving for homegrown. Avoiding the drive thru. And more. However, there are so many that continue to circle this mountain unwittingly. Stuck in the seemingly never ending merry-go-round of life. Caught among life’s stresses. The business. The fatigue. The confusion.

I mean, what is healthy? Used to it was simple. Eating at home you knew you were eating healthy. Whether the food came from your backyard, the neighbor, or the neighborhood store; it was good. Sadly, it is not so cut and dried anymore.

I have been torn on how (and if) to even do this blog. My inconsistent ramblings are hardly even worth the time it takes to type it out. However, I long to make it useful.

Maybe by using my education. My anger. My fear. My concerns. I can put it to use? We will see. But I see the need.I have been volunteering my time for a while now teaching people how to transform their health through food. Not with some magic pill, but with what God has provided us.

I see the aching every week. Like children they drink in what I have to say. Some of them grasp it and like fledglings expand their wings and attempt to fly on their own. However, others are afraid of falling, and cling to me.

So maybe that is what I will do (along with adding some other aspects of my life…from my hubby’s romantic ideas of the perfect anniversary slaughtering turtles, to some real life tips from my home). I would love to have your input.

I think tomorrow I will begin with explaining somethings that need to be explained. To open the eyes that need opened…

Still alive..just been REALLY BUSY!! But, I have exciting news!

Tinctures and Salves 2

Well, I disappeared…I know. Yes, we have been doing ALL kinds of stuff around here let me tell you! And, MORE to do!! But, I have some VERY exciting news! I opened my business!! Pappy’s Simple Livin’. I picked the name because of my grandpa, better known as Pappy, and the fact that I aim to help people get back to a more simple life. Now, that doesn’t mean that I do not enjoy SOME things of this era (as in the internet…I do), but I believe that people should be able to sustain themselves if need be.

In addition to starting my business, I also started teaching a nutrition class on Wed at our church. It feels great to “work” in my field again. Although it is a volunteer class, getting to help people with improving their health through better nutrition, and helping them with fitness is AWESOME! What i even better is the biblical applications that go right along with it.

So with that said, I just created a new blog for Pappy’s Simple Livin’ that  will keep you updated on my business ventures from http://pappyssimplelivin.wordpress.com/  I just created it , so give me time to get everything loaded.

Also, I am planning to use this blog for my class to, so expect to see regular posts on here. I will be providing more herbal tips, sustainable living tips, nutrition tips (I have a degree), fitness tips (I am a certified trainer), as well as ramblings… SO EXCITED!! Feel free to give me post ideas if there is anything that you are interested in, or if you have health/nutrition/fitness concerns, or questions!!

Also, feel free to check out my etsy store, I will be adding more, and more products in the next few weeks! https://www.etsy.com/shop/PappysSimpleLivin. I wil be planning MORE announcements! Giveaways and MORE! So share, and check back!!

XOXO

Maria ❤

DIY Rustic Key Holder

Image

We needed a key holder.

Badly.

For some reason we have approximately 1.2345 million keys.

Why we don not key everything the same…I don’t know.

However, we don’t.

So…I needed a key holder.

I had seen some at the primitive shops that I scope out, however my budget does not allow for such things.

Making this type of a key holder is super easy.

First all you need is a scrap piece of wood.

Paint it a solid color (in this case mine was painted black).

Allow it to dry.

Paint a solid color( in this case I had some leftover egg shell), while it is still wet apply a layer of white school glue liberally.

Allow to dry, an it will crackle.

MAKE SURE the paint is still WET or it will not crackle!

I did not take step by step pics, because I wasn’t planning to post this until my daughter said I should.

I guess I need to start taking pics of everything I do while I am doing it, just in case. Call me the paparazzi.

After everything is dry attach your embellishments, in this case old door knobs and keys. (That is what the one I saw at the shop had too, and I just so happened to have old knobs and keys…yay!)

After that is done, spray it or paint it with polyurethane to seal the deal.

Then hammer ya a few nails in (mine were old cast offs) that the keys can hang from.

On the back put a wire  loop to hang it with (I use galvanized wire).

There ya go..an easy key hanger!
